Alice Xu is a figurative artist with many years of experience in painting and drawing. She has garnered numerous awards and works displayed and collected at respected galleries, institutions and private collections such AGNSW, National Art School and St Andrew’s College, University of Sydney.

《The Rusting of History, oil on canvas, 102 x 76cm》 I’m so grateful to have been awarded 1st Place of the Lane Cove Art Award 2024, the selection of entries this year were all so incredible and inspiring. Congratulations to my fellow winners @martin_claydon_painter and Dagmar Cyrulla and all the finalists, including my dear friend @callum.w_art. “Birthplace” (the winning artwork/last image not first lol bc I already posted it) is part of my Entropic Landscape series, focused on the everyday, discardings and waste, the transformation of spaces overtime and how engaging with the negative and anti-aesthetics can provide an impetus for improvement in daily life. All works in the series are composed from collaged photos, where I will take random photos of garbage or clutter when I see them in my everyday. Birthplace reflects the starting point of artists and artwork. The studio is not a particularly spruce place, the process can be messy, tedious and private, yet is a space for flourishment and innovation.
